At Tchelal Foods, we’re a family-owned business dedicated to supporting the well-being and health of our customers. We offer fonio, an ancient, gluten-free West African grain packed with nutrients, along with a curated selection of other healthy African products to enrich your diet.

Since our founding in 2019, we have been connecting Canadians with wholesome West African foods, from pre-cooked fonio to fonio flour, making it easy to enjoy nutritious, flavorful meals at home.

As we grow, we’re excited to expand our offerings with more ingredients and products tailored to the needs of families across Canada.

Meet Fatimatou

Fatimatou is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management with a concentration in Business Administration.

Her professional journey began in the nonprofit sector, where she held various roles that shaped her perspective on impact, service, and community. In 2019, she chose to follow a more personal calling by stepping into entrepreneurship.

This path was deeply inspired by her late father, Boubacar Biro Barry, an accomplished entrepreneur who built a successful portfolio of businesses. He instilled in her the belief that entrepreneurship is one of the most meaningful endeavors—an opportunity to create impact while building a lasting legacy.

Today, Fatimatou is driven by purpose. She is committed to sharing her talents with the world while building ventures that reflect intention, resilience, and long-term vision.

Meet Yayé

Yayé is a graduate of Drexel University, where she specialized in Marketing and International Business. She brings a global perspective and a refined strategic vision to the Company, playing an integral role in shaping its growth and expanding its reach.

At the heart of Yayé’s journey is a deep commitment to well-being and intentional living. As a mother of three, she understands that food is more than nourishment—it is a foundation for health, connection, and lasting memories.

Guided by this belief, Yayé is passionate about inspiring others to reconnect through food—bringing loved ones together to experience African cuisine that is rich in flavor, heritage, and soul. Through her work, she celebrates the beauty of culture, the importance of nourishment, and the timeless tradition of gathering around the table with purpose and love.

Meet Sakinatou

Sakinatou holds a degree in Economic Sciences and brings strategic insight and thoughtful analysis to help guide the Company’s mission and values.

Since immigrating to Canada in 2017, she has embraced entrepreneurship as a path to purpose and independence. Like her sisters, she is guided by a deep commitment not only to building something of her own, but also to prioritizing health, well-being, and spirituality.

Through her perspective, Sakinatou contributes to a vision that is both grounded and intentional—one that honors balance, growth, and meaningful impact.
